Teen Salinas Slam a Great Success

Teens of east Salinas brought their "minds to the mic" at their first poetry slam competition and open mic, hosted by Cesar Chavez Public Library. The event on December 4, 2009 was the end result of 2 months of poetry workshops co-facilitated by the Central California Writing Project and Marcos Cabrera, emcee, journalist and slam poet extraordinaire. The workshops and slam were supported by a generous endowment from the Carmel Authors and Ideas Foundation. For more information, see the full story . The teens are already asking "When is the next slam happening?" so stay tuned for details about the next series of poetry workshops this spring.
